Footfall

Though not officially part of the stations of passage, Footfall is one of the key landmarks of the Expanse. Founded in 410.M41 by Rogue Trader Parsimus Duvain, the station has grown to be one of the largest bastions of humanity in the Expanse. Grown to a colony of millions scattered across the asteroid fields of Furibundus, the nature of its founding has allowed it to exist largely outside of Imperial law. This had made it a haven for all manner of unscrupulous types, ranging from the narco-gang lords of the spire of intoxicants and recidivist hereteks to pirates, xenos, and rogue traders. In fact, so critical is their presence and the vague sense of legitimacy they grant to the place, rogue traders are granted special privileges on Footfall. The Liege of the colony is at all times subservient to the most senior rogue trader docked. While the concept of “most senior” is nebulous and undefined, and the authority granted by this clause does not actually grant visiting rogue traders any actual power over the various factions that operate here, Footfall remains a safe harbor warrant holders seeking to resupply and buy or sell almost anything.

Except for the Great Strangling of 813, and the Imperial Navy interdiction that followed, but that event is not spoken of in polite company.
